    First Year Course Scheduling

First Year schedules are designed to make sure that all entering first year students are enrolled in a full-time schedule of required courses.  The block programs help ensure that first year students start off on the right track for their majors and timely graduation.

When creating your first-semester schedule we take into consideration your intended major, incoming transfer or AP credits, your Math and English placements, and your responses to the Pre-Orientation Survey.

The block programs typically include Math and English (according to placement), a selection of Pathways: Flexible Core classes, and occasionally major eligibility classes.  Review the Pathways Curriculum and Zicklin School of Business Eligibility Requirements pages for more information.  First year students should plan to be available from 7:50 am – 5:30 pm to attend class.  Evening and reduced course load schedules (less than 12 credits) are available upon request.

Complete the Pre-Orientation Survey to receive your invitation to Orientation and secure your course schedule!

The Pre-Orientation Survey will be sent to your Baruchmail account once your commitment deposit has been received or waived, and your Math and English placements have been determined.  Make sure you complete any necessary Math or English placement exams as soon as possible. Benefits of Block Programming

    Stress-free Registration

    Opportunity to Connect with Classmates

    Guaranteed Full-Time Schedule

    Opportunity for a Learning Community

Baruch Learning Communities is an exciting program designed to enrich academic and social experiences and opportunities for incoming first year students. Shared schedules and small classes enable students to connect with and rely on each other as they confront and embrace new challenges and possibilities. The result is not only a springboard to academic success but also a strong cohort, a bond with friends and faculty that can last a lifetime. A course in a freshman block will be designated a learning community (LC) led by the faculty member teaching the course, who will have co-curricular activities that support the experience of the course.  Co-curricular activities may include cultural events on campus, visits to museums, concerts, theater, historical sites — and more!  Enrollment in the learning community courses will be limited to twenty students each, and a linked section of Freshman Seminar will have a roster with the same twenty students.

Baruch College is committed to the values of integrity, excellence, respect and engagement. Learn more about the CUNY Policy on Academic Integrity, the consequences for cheating, and strategies to avoid plagiarism and cheating on the Dean of Students webpage.
