    New Student Orientation

    Welcome, Fall 2026 Students!

    We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant community.  Your Orientation Day is the start of an incredible journey where you’ll explore campus, make meaningful connections, and prepare to achieve your academic and personal goals.

    Get ready for Orientation! Check back for our summer registration dates.  

    Step 1: Check Your Admissions Portal

    Make sure you submit all transcripts and test scores and complete any necessary math or English placement exams as soon as possible.  Invitations to Orientation will be sent once your commitment deposit has been received or waived and you have both math and English placements.  Choose the date that works best for you! Access your Admissions Portal. 

    Step 2: Course Registration

    • Transfer students can register for courses on their own, once assigned an enrollment appointment. Enrollment appointments are assigned as your transfer credit evaluations are processed and you have valid Math and English placements. Be sure to complete any necessary placement exams and to submit all your important documents to Admissions as soon as possible.

    • First-Year students will be enrolled in a block program.  Your schedule will be thoughtfully created based on your incoming credits, intended major, your math and English placements, and your responses to the Orientation Registration Form.  Register for your Orientation date in order to secure your course schedule.  Learn more about First-Year Course Scheduling.

    What to Expect at Orientation

    • Picture time! We’ll be taking your Baruch student ID picture during check-in.  Please note that you must be registered for classes to receive your student ID card.  If you haven’t registered for classes yet, you’ll have to get your ID Card on another day.
    • Personalize your experience! Choose the sessions that best fit your interests to create a day tailored just for you.
    • Discover Baruch! Get to know the campus and connect with your classmates.  Your Orientation Day is the perfect time to meet new friends, dive into campus life, and make connections that will last.
    • Plan for a half-day!  Orientation runs from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.  Arrive on time and come ready to participate, connect, and make the most of every moment.  Orientation is an in-person experience, and there is no online option available.

    Orientation FAQ

    Is Orientation required?

    YES! Orientation is strongly encouraged for all incoming students and is designed to help you make a successful transition to Baruch College. You’ll learn about campus resources, meet fellow students, and gain important information to help you prepare for your first semester.

    Can family members or friends attend orientation with you?

    Unfortunately, no. Orientation is designed specifically for incoming students only.

    What should I bring to Orientation?

    We recommend bringing a government-issued photo ID or previous school photo ID, along with anything you may need to take notes throughout the day. Comfortable clothing and footwear are encouraged, as you’ll spend some time walking around campus. You may also want to bring a light sweater or jacket, as some areas of the building can get quite chilly due to the air conditioning.

    What if I can no longer attend my original orientation date? How do I reschedule?

    If you are unable to attend your selected Orientation session, please update your registration through the Admissions Portal or contact the New Student Programs team at Orientation@baruch.cuny.edu for assistance.

    What happens if I arrive late?

    We understand that delays happen, and we will accommodate late arrivals. However, we strongly encourage you to arrive on time so you don’t miss important information, activities, and opportunities to connect with other new students. If you know you’ll be significantly late, please reschedule for another date.

    Will food be provided?

    We offer refreshments at the Welcome Party towards the end of the day. Students can bring their own lunch as well.

    Will I receive my student ID during orientation?

    Students who are registered for classes will have the opportunity to take their ID photo during Orientation check-in and receive their Baruch ID card by the end of the day. If you are unable to receive your ID during Orientation, you can visit the ID Center on another day before the start of the semester to complete the process.

    Where does Orientation take place?

    Orientation takes place at the Newman Vertical Campus (NVC), located at 55 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10010.Be sure to review your Orientation confirmation and allow extra time for travel. Click here for a campus map and directions.

    Should I set up the MFA app before coming to orientation?

    Yes. We strongly encourage you to set up CUNY Login Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) before arriving on campus and download the Microsoft Authenticator app to your mobile device. During Orientation, we’ll explain how MFA works and why you’ll need it to access important systems such as CUNY first, Brightspace, and Degree Works.

    Contact the Baruch Computing & Technology Center (BCTC) Help Desk for assistance with MFA and all of your student accounts.

    When will I receive/see my schedule?

    First-Year Students: Your first-semester schedule will be created for you based on your intended major, incoming credits, Math and English placements, and information provided on your Orientation Registration Form. First year students will be registered for classes by the New Student Programs Office after they are registered for an Orientation date.  Click here for more information about First-Year Course Scheduling.

    Transfer Students: You may register for classes on your own once you have been assigned an enrollment appointment, your transfer credits have been evaluated, and you have valid Math and English placements.
