Yes! Choose to apply to any or all three positions.  The New Student Programs Peer Mentor Application form will ask you to select which positions you are interested in.

Applications for summer 2025 Orientation Leader and fall 2025 FYS and TSN Peer Mentors will become available on February 14th, 2025.
Application Deadline: Monday, March 3rd

No, but it does mean that you were recognized for your potential and should definitely apply!

Talk to former Orientation Leaders and Peer Mentors about what the interview and experience were like for them.  Review the job description for the position(s) you are more interested in and think about how you’ll contribute to the team.  Finally, show up on time and be yourself!

Yes, however, returning peer mentors will receive priority in the hiring process.

Returning OLs do not need to complete the full application and participate in the group interview.  Contact Stephanie Gika for the Returner Application.  Your valuable skills and experience enhance the program, and for this reason, returning OLs will receive priority in the hiring process.  However, please note that a spot is not guaranteed, as final selections depend on program needs and the overall applicant pool.  Returners must commit to the full orientation schedule, including training days, to be eligible.

Orientation Leaders are expected to commit to all the dates of training and orientation programs from July 14 to August 21.  If you are not able to commit to these dates, please do not apply.

Orientation Leaders

Orientation Leader training will take place over two days prior to the launch of the summer orientation season.  During training, you’ll gain a clear understanding of your role and responsibilities, get to know your team and team leadership, and practice icebreakers along with other key parts of the program.  You’ll also learn the logistics of running a campus-wide event.

Halfway through the season, we’ll hold a mini-training session to check in, assess progress, and refocus on the goals of the program.

FYS & TSN Peer Mentors

FYS & TSN Mentors will have a joint training session on Tuesday, August 12th where we will cover group dynamics, mentorship essentials, program operations, and preparing for convocation. In addition to attending the day-long training, FYS & TSN Mentors are required to complete Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training.

Peer Mentors are required to complete NASPA’s Certified Peer Educator (CPE) Training to ensure they are equipped with the essential skills to be effective leaders and support systems for their peers. This comprehensive, 12-hour training program is designed to provide foundational knowledge and practical techniques across eight key modules. The Office of New Student Programs offers this training through various tracks to accommodate student schedules. Topics covered include understanding the power and role of peer educators, effective listening, bystander intervention, identity awareness, and programming strategies. Upon completion, participants receive a nationally recognized certification, a membership card, and a resume attachment, acknowledging their readiness to serve as impactful peer leaders on campus.

No. Previous experience is not required to be an Orientation Leader or Peer Mentor.  Your experience as a Baruch student and willingness to share and support new students matters as much as previous job experience.

For the summer 2025 orientation season, OLs are free to take classes in Summer 1 session but will not be able to take classes in Summer 2.  Summer 2025 OLs are asked to commit to all the dates of training and orientation programs from July 14 to August 21. OLs can work at another job at the same time as long as they can still fully commit to the orientation schedule.

OL staff are expected on campus by 9:30 am and work until 4:30 pm on each day of Orientation.
