Jamal Jalilian-Marian is a theoretical high energy nuclear physicist. He received his undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. After doing several post doctoral appointments he joined Baruch College where he is a Professor of Physics. His main research interests are Quantum ChromoDynamics (QCD) and its applications to high energy processes, high energy cosmic rays and ultrahigh energy neutrinos. QCD is the fundamental theory of strong interactions responsible for confining quarks and gluons inside a hadron (proton, neutron,...) as well as holding the protons and neutrons inside a nucleus. Extreme limits of QCD (high energy and high temperature) are explored in collider experiments at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as well as in the newly approved Electron Ion Collider, to be built in Long Island, NY. Prof. Jalilian-Marian's main interest in QCD is in exploring the mostly unknown regimes of QCD where novel phenomenoa are expected to occur.
