Frank L. Cioffi is Professor of English at Baruch College—City University of New York. He has taught at Princeton University, Scripps College, and the University of Gdansk. His current writing projects include an account of life in Poland between Martial Law and Freedom, as well as a science fiction novel entitled “The Human Cry,” which extrapolates the attraction and dangers of A.I. His first book was Formula Fiction: An Anatomy of American Science Fiction, 1930-40 (Greenwood, 1982). He has since published his work in Raritan, Extrapolation, Critique, Narrative, and elsewhere. His most recent publication, Stellar English (Princeton UP, 2024), is a grammar handbook that tells a science fiction story through its example sentences.
