Camila Torres Castro (PhD University of Texas at Austin) is an Assistant Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture from Guadalajara, Mexico. Her work focuses on contemporary Mexico and her research and teaching interests include sound studies, film studies, and popular culture studies.
Currently, she is working on her book manuscript, titled A Resonant Nation: The Affective Politics of Sound in Contemporary Mexican Cinema, which interrogates the relationship between the sonic elements of film and how they relate to national identity and nation building. Within Baruch, she also serves as the PSC-CUNY Chapter Vice-Chair and chairs the Film minor.
Before joining Baruch, she was the Ann Plato Postdoctoral Fellow at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. She collects vinyl, and is a national member of Chulita Vinyl Club.
