China's Smart Cities Initiative

About the Program:

Dr. Amy Chen of Ping An Smart City Research Institute will discuss the Smart Cities changing China and the technologies behind them. Smart cities use information and communication technologies to increase operational efficiency, share information with the public and improve both the quality of government services and citizen welfare. China sees Smart Cities as the means to overcome the nearly universal challenges of population expansion, traffic congestion, environmental degradation and resource shortages.1 Over 1,000 smart city pilot projects are ready for or are under construction worldwide and China is home to about 500 of them as reported by Deloitte.

About the Speaker:

Dr Amy ChenDr. Amy Chen is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Scientist of Ping An Smart City Research Institute. In this capacity, she is responsible for Ping An's Smart City promotion, Top-level design, standard development and program development.

Previously, Dr. Chen was in charge of intelligent city and strategic management consulting at IBM, where she focused on emerging industrial planning, city planning and large-scale projects, mergers and acquisitions transformation in the telecom industry.

Dr. Chen published “The Series on Practical Sharing of Smart Cities” in 2012 and “The Top-level Design Method and Practical Sharing of Smart Cities” in 2015. She holds a Doctor of Technology and Organization Management, from the University of Maryland and Master of Information Technology and Mangage and Master of Computer Science from Bradley University.
