(First Come, First Served)
Based on the novel of the same name, this Academy Award-Winning film depicts Italian life in Ferrara during Mussolini’s rise to power. The Finzi-Continis are a wealthy and intellectual Jewish family who are seemingly able to live within their own bubble, ignoring the ever deteriorating quality of life for Jews in Europe. It is only when they are banned from their tennis club due to Mussolini’s anti-Semitic laws that the Finzi-Continis recognize the severity of the situation. The family invites Jewish and non-Jewish friends alike to their own home to play tennis, where friendship and romance plays out, only to be forced into the reality of the political climate in Italy outside the Finzi-Contini bubble.
