GENERAL INFORMATION

Mission Statement
Baruch College is committed to making individuals with disabilities
full participants in its programs, services, and activities through
compliance with Sect in 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
and The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as well
as state and local laws and regulations. It is the policy of
Baruch College that no otherwise qualified individual with a
disability shall be denied access to or participation in any
program, services or activity offered by the College.

Ms. Barbara Sirois has been the Director of Disabilities Services
at Baruch College since 1989. She received her BA degree in literature
from University of Wisconsin, the Madison campus. After working
in the corporate world for several years, she returned to school
and obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling in Higher Education.
After an internship at Hunter College in Disability Services,
Ms. Sirois became Director of Disability Services at Brooklyn
College. Several years later she became Director of Services
at Baruch College.

As Director at Baruch College Ms. Sirois, in addition to overseeing
direct services to students with disabilities, participates at
both the college and university levels in addressing policy,
legal and legislative issues and created the first pilot project
for assistive technology services within CUNY. Initially housed
at Baruch College, CUNY Assistive Technology Services (CATS)
is now a CUNY wide office housed at Queens College. Ms. Sirois
is particularly interested in ensuring a successful transition
from higher education into the world of work.
