    Awards For Students

    To recognize excellence, the Department of English annually confers eight awards to top-ranking literature students:

    The Excellence in English Award: Given to two outstanding literature majors

    The Bryant Hayes Scholarship: Given to a student who has excelled in one of the Great Works of Literature courses

    The Donald Loff Scholarship for Excellence in English: Given to an outstanding junior or senior majoring in English

    The Michael Staub Memorial Scholarship: Given to an outstanding student majoring in English

    The Paula Berggren Scholarship: Given to an outstanding student majoring in English

    The Addison Gayle Fellowship Award: Given to a student who has excelled in African American courses and is a member of a club that has contributed to the quality of life for African Americans.

    The Addison Gayle Lecture Series

    The Addison Gayle Lecture Series, an annual college-wide event, features lectures by noted scholars and activists. The lecture series is named in honor of the noted African-American writer and critic who was a Distinguished Professor and long-time member of the Department of English.
