About the Program
The Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity hosts David Gelles, author of the bestseller, “The Man Who Broke Capitalism: How Jack Welch Gutted the Heartland and Crushed the Soul of Corporate America – and How to Undo His Legacy.” Gelles’ book is an indictment of Welch’s time as General Electric’s CEO but also of the influence he has had on the role of large businesses in relation to the broader culture and community.
Gelles will be joined by several Baruch College professors for a discussion of how universities should teach students the lessons drawn from his book regarding businesses and the many stakeholders affected by their conduct. Drawing on their decades of classroom and research experience in a variety of disciplines our faculty will engage in a lively exchange with Gelles that could help us develop a new approach to teaching about the very nature of American capitalism. Free copies of Gelles’ book will be made available to Baruch students on a first come, first served basis.
