Event Description: The Global Student Certificate Program at the Weissman Center for International Business presents the second series of masterclasses in the arts, A Tour of the World in Six Artworks.
This series of 6 masterclasses by art historians will connect world cultures with the fine arts, to see if we can find an alternate way to become globally-accomplished students. For Baruch students who wish to in order to operate at the highest echelons of business and industry, a working knowledge of art history and culture will be indispensable.
The second event in the 2021-22 series is given by documentary filmmaker and founder of Changeworx, Jonathan Goodman Levitt.
"Filming Beliefs: Formation of the Self in Longitudinal Documentary"
Jonathan’s work personalizes social issues and motivates social change by charting people's lives as they unfold on-screen. He will discuss whether and how filming such ideas is possible. What happens when someone is diagnosed with a mental illness and forced to reconsider who he is? How do teenagers learn to separate themselves from what their parents’ think? To what extent are poverty and a lack of school choice drivers of Islamic fundamentalism in Pakistan? And how can these topics be portrayed on camera thoughtfully, provocatively, and fairly at the same time?
