Heavy is the Head – Musical Portraits of Queens Powerful and Vulnerable

‘Soprano Monique McDonald, lauded for her “Opulent soprano with rapturous intensity.” – Opera News and pianist Michael Fennelly, known for his “flair and energy” – The New York Times perform 

A program for Woman’s History Month reflecting on ruling women across history in a program of aria and songs by Handel, Barber, Berlioz, Verdi, Schumann, and the rarely performed Try Me, Good King, based on the last words of Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Katherine Parr, by American composer Libby Larsen.

There will be a pre-concert talk at 4PM with Baruch professor Allison Deutermann and Monique McDonald about women in powerful positions in the Renaissance and modern day - how they were depicted, and how they depicted themselves.
