The original, non-musical film version of the stories written by Sholem Aleichem which later inspired Fiddler on the Roof. Tevye tells the story of Tevye the Dairyman who lives a humble existence outside the city with his wife, Goldle and several daughters who are all of marrying age and on their own singular paths. Although Tevye loves his daughters, he struggles to reconcile his own beliefs, his wishes for them and the desires of his many daughters. Maurice Schwartz both directs and stars in the title role.
