Angel Nafis

Fall 2017 Writing Fellow

Angel Nafis is the author of BlackGirl Mansion (Red Beard Press/New School Poetics, 2012). She earned her BA at Hunter College and is an MFA candidate in poetry at Warren Wilson College. Her work has appeared in The BreakBeat Poets Anthology, The Rumpus, Poetry magazine, and elsewhere. Nafis is the recipient of fellowships from Cave Canem, The Millay Colony, the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. She has represented NYC at both the women of the World Poetry Slam and the National Poetry Slam. With Poet Morgan Parker (Spring '16 Harman Writing Fellow), she runs The Other Black Girl Collective, an Internationally touring Black Feminist Poetry Duo.

On Thursday, November 16, Nafis lead a wonderful poetry workshop on finding inspiration in the small things. The event was co-sponsored by Encounters Magazine.
