Executive master of public administration

The Executive MPA is for experienced professionals who want to gain administrate leadership skills through a convenient course schedule and accelerated program of study. The classes focus on current issues and problems that confront administrative professionals in New York City. Skills are developed in budgeting, communications, economics, management, and research methods. To bring real-world knowledge to pedagogy, Baruch College’s distinguished faculty are joined in the classroom by expert practitioners as either instructors or guest speakers.
Established in 1984, it is one of the original executive public administration programs in the nation.

The Executive MPA develops confident, innovative, ethical, and strategic leaders with the capability to make a difference in government and nonprofit administration. Classes are taught for a full-day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on 35 Saturdays from September to June. Students complete the 42-credit curriculum in two years as a cohort. The shared cohort experience offers students the opportunity to learn from each other during the program and to make lifelong connections after graduation. Students become a part of an alumni network that includes high-level administrators at such organizations including: Con Edison, Association for a Better New York, New York Cares, the Roundabout Theater Company, New York-Presbyterian, Maimonides Medical Center, NYC Office of Management and Budget, NYC City Council, NYC Department of Finance, NYC Parks Department, and the American Federation of the Arts.

The program offers exclusive amenities and unique learning opportunities that include:

  • A dedicated advisor to assist with course planning, registration, and navigating college systems.
  • Leadership orientation and professional development led by Coro.
  • Books and other supplies for all classes.

  • Educational field trips and walking tours to local landmarks, city agencies, and neighborhoods.

  • Paid professional memberships with the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action, and the American Society for Public Administration (NYC Metropolitan Chapter).
  • Membership for high achieving students in Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for public affairs and administration.

The Executive MPA limits admissions to those with a minimum of three years professional management experience and an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and/or a graduate-level degree in another field. Tuition and fees for each academic year are $25,595 for in-state residents and $33,995 for out-of-state residents. The fees cover books and all other amenities. The School works with students to obtain financial aid and scholarships. Employers are encouraged to support their employees to complete the program. Executive MPA graduates return to their jobs with the knowledge and actionable ideas that can pay off with improved operational efficiency and effectiveness.
