Jazzmobile award winning and iTunes Essential jazz vocalist Lynette Washington performs a unique celebration of the holiday season, along with Dennis Bell on piano, Chris Hunter on saxophone, Alex Blake on bass, and Victor Jones on drums. A special holiday reception for the audience will follow the concert.
Ms. Washington will be featuring songs in an intimate setting at Baruch Performing Arts Center from her album Long Long Ago (A Jazz Celebration of Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa), in addition to traditional holiday classics in her first set. For her second set, jazz classics will be featured from Nina Simone to Oliver Nelson as well as songs from the Great American Songbook and composers Ned Washington, K’Jon and Billy Joel.
Lynette Washington is a native New Yorker with an extensive career in jazz, R&B and gospel. Her music has taken her across the globe, as far as Australia. She was the 2005 Grand Prize Winner of the Jazzmobile/Anheuser Busch Jazz Vocal Competition and was featured on WBGO’s Singers Unlimited as well as WBLS’s Croton Music Festival. She has performed and appeared on TV with Aretha Franklin, U2, Celia Cruz, Clifford Jordan, Alex Blake, George Coleman, Dave Grusin, Dave Valentin, and Tom Browne, among others. She has recorded 6 albums (Smoky Dawn, Kaleidoscope, Long Long Ago, Live at the X! , Live at the Kennedy Center), and has appeared at Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, The River Room, Creole Jazz & Supper Club, The Apollo Theater, The Schomburg Library, BB Kings, PJS Jazz Society, Westchester Performing Arts Center, and Blues Alley in Washington DC.
