Layering references of infra-structure, individualism, and patterns - both social and geometric - YUNG-LI DANCE constructs a process of re-discovery through physical movement and the creative adjusting of rational thought.

ARTISTIC
DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER
Yung-Li Chen, native of Taiwan, received her MFA from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase in 2008. Upon graduation, she founded the YUNG-LI DANCE company. As Artistic Director, her inspiration is rooted in allowing the body to interpret topics of our
culture’s social sciences. Her dance residencies include DTW Bessie Schoenberg Laboratory in Composition (New York, NY), International Choreographers Residency at the
ADF (Durham, NC), The Field Artist Residency Program (New York, NY), collaborations with
Glenfiddich’s 2011 Artists in Residency (Dufftown, Scotland), and Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France).
Her works have been presented in the U.S., Japan, Spain, and Mexico and have won a number of composition awards. New York City venues include Reverb Dance, DUMBO Dance, American Dance Guild and Downtown Dance, Dixon Place's Mondo Cane! Commission Program, Choreography's Canvas, WAXworks, and Fertile Ground New Works Series. Yung-Li’s works have been reviewed by The New York Times, The Village Voice, The World Journal, and The Knight News.
YUNG-LI DANCE is a recipient of the 2011 New York Foundation for the Arts BUILD Stability Grant.
