Sara Davis Buechner is an award-winning classical concert pianist of accomplishment, mastery, sensitivity and versatility, who will bring to Baruch a concert primarily consisting of the music of Gershwin and 1920s novelty music. As a major prizewinner of the world's most prestigious piano competitions, she established her career by winning the 1984 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition (Gold Medal), and the 1986 Tschaikowsky International Piano Competition (Bronze Medal). She has appeared nationally as soloist with the NY Philharmonic and the symphony orchestras of several major U.S. cities (Philadelphia, Cleveland, San Francisco, among others). Internationally, she has performed as soloist with the Japan Philharmonic, the BBC Philharmonic, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León (Spain), and the symphony orchestras of Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton and Calgary, among others. She tours through out the Far East annually. Ms. Buechner's recording of George Gershwin piano music was selected as a Recording of the Month by Stereophile Magazine. Her world première recording of Bach's "Goldberg" Variations (Busoni version) was profiled in the NY Times; and her recording of Hollywood piano concertos by Bernard Herrmann and Franz Waxman won Germany's Deutsches Schauplatten Preis for best soundtrack. Ms. Buechner's extensive discography includes more than ten disks for the Yamaha Disklavier and Piano Soft systems.
