I write to inform you that Alan Evelyn, Director of Sponsored Programs and Research (SPAR), will retire from Baruch College on January 23, 2015. Alan has served admirably in that capacity for nearly thirteen years, and his impact on our research mission, and on the individual success of faculty, has been spectacular.
Alan joined us in the beginning of the 2002-03 academic year, and he was already a seasoned veteran in proposal development and sponsored project development. Under his leadership, SPAR has witnessed impressive growth in the number of grants and contracts and faculty awards conferred on Baruch. Alan is broadly known to the Baruch faculty as a problem solver and facilitator who has stewarded the progress of increasing numbers of colleagues in seeking external funding. Alan has also been instrumental in creating a climate supportive to research among our faculty. This year, for example, he helped to launch a series of faculty research seminars that will bring together faculty with shared research interests from across departmental and school boundaries. The seminars will help to foster the sense of research groups and shared research endeavors. He has also been a model college citizen by serving on committees ranging from Cross Borders Global Strategies group to the College’s Affirmative Action Committee. He also served as the College’s Research Integrity Officer, Import Export Control Administrator, and Director for Undergraduate Research.
I know that we will all miss this vital contributor to our academic community, but I hope that you will join me in wishing him every success in his future endeavors.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
