New York City (NYC)
Louis Armstrong House Museum
Louis Armstrong was an internationally renowned jazz musician, born on August 4, 1901, in the New Orleans neighborhood called "the battlefield." He is widely considered to be the founding father of Jazz and has contributed to its development significantly in his lifetime. His influence on music is still felt today. Louis Armstrong and his wife Lucille settled down in a modest house in Corona Queens in 1943 and spent the rest of their lives there. The house itself had not been occupied since the passing of Mr. Armstrong in 1971 and the furnishings have remained unaltered since then. The Louis Armstrong House Museum not only gives visitors a glimpse into his private life, but it also provides the historical context of his legacy.
The house is opened to the public and visitors can participate in a 40-minute guided tour, held hourly from Tuesday through Sunday during open hours. The last tour starts at 4PM each day except Monday. For more information, please visit http://www.louisarmstronghouse.org/visiting/overview.htm.
