City Island
City Island is a small island, measuring approximately 1.5 miles long by 0.5 miles wide, located on the extreme western end of Long Island Sound. It was once a part of Westchester County, but it is now a part of the Bronx. City Island has the look and feel of a New England fishing village. It has a population of 4,362 and plenty of day-trippers visit during the summer. Due to easy access to Long Island Sound, it played a critical role in shipbuilding during the 19th and 20th centuries. The Island has yacht clubs, marinas, special anchorages, and boat slips for people who want to tie up their boat and visit. City Island is well known for its fresh seafood restaurants. There is also a City Island Nautical Museum, which displays maritime artifacts, antiques, and documents of the rich nautical history City Island. City Island offers breathtaking views of New York City across Eastchester Bay, being able to overlook Manhattan landmarks like the Empire State Building. Longtime residents love City Island for its tranquil suburban feel while being right in the heart of New York City.
