NEW YORK, NY- April 24, 2014 – School of Public Affairs Alumna Celeste Simon is spending the semester at The White House.

The Brooklyn native graduated from Baruch College in February 2013 and is currently an intern in the Office of Presidential Correspondence. She works on the Mail Analysis team in the Hard Mail division, which is tasked with handling all of the physical mail the President receives.  As an intern, Simon analyzes and processes incoming mail, manages and trains volunteer staff, and assists with incoming inquiries and comments from constituents.

"Celeste’s appointment to a White House Internship is the second in as many years for a BSPA student"

She first became interested in the White House Internship Program through a notification from Baruch’s School of Public Affairs. Simon was drawn to the program’s mission to foster leaders in public service through training and mentoring.

“Celeste’s appointment to a White House Internship is the second in as many years for a BSPA student,” says David Birdsell, Dean of the School of Public Affairs. “SPA’s presence in DC is steadily increasing with our spring DC internship program, our Presidential Management Fellows, our Colin Powell Fellows, and of course our White House Interns. We are very proud of Celeste and wish her all the best for what is sure to be an exciting term of service with the President.”

Simon hopes to continue her journey in public service by gaining a Master’s in Public Administration and working for a nonprofit or government agency that promotes economic and social mobility in inner cities.
