Baruch College Team Finishes in The Top 10 at UChicago Midwest Trading Competition
NEW YORK, NY - March 20, 2014 - Participating for the first time at the UChicago Midwest Trading Competition held at the University of Chicago, a team of Baruch College undergraduate students finished 10th overall (as well as 4th in the Mathematical Market Models case), in a select company of 20 teams from 10 universities from the United States and Canada.
The members of the Baruch team were: Ricky Chang, Dustin Moy, David Paradis, and Daniel Siryakov.
For the competition, case studies were sent in advance to provide time to create and test custom algorithms. Cases required technical development skills in the form of algo creation and sound decision-making skills to recognize when the algorithm was not working.
Each college team consisted of three to four students, and multiple teams from the same University were also allowed to compete. Baruch College finished 6th out of the ten schools that competed. Baruch finished just behind the Top 5 Colleges: MIT (1st place); Harvard (2nd place); Carnegie Mellon (3rd place); Caltech (4th place); and University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (5th place). The other participating schools were (in alphabetical order): Dartmouth College, University of Iowa, University of Chicago, and University of Waterloo.
The competition was sponsored by DRW Trading, IMC Financial Markets, Belvedere Trading, The CME Group, Allston Trading, Geneva Trading, Flow Traders, Spot Trading, Wolverine Trading, SBB Research Group, Eurex, and Optiver Trading.
