NEW YORK, NY- January 23, 2014 - Baruch College Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) recent graduate Michael Yampol and current MFE student Srinivas Kannepalli took the first two places, respectively, out of 900 participants worldwide in the First Financial Engineering Quiz Competition organized by Risk Latte, a boutique financial engineering firm whose educational component offers the CFE (Certificate in Financial Engineering).

Michael, a 2006 MFE graduate, and Srinivas, a senior MFE student, each received a collection of Quant Finance books worth $200. The competition was hosted on the Risk Latte Facebook page, which received more than 8,000 “Likes” from professionals and students. In addition, there were about 900 respondents, not only from the banking and finance sector but also from engineering and physical sciences field, from all over the world who participated and submitted their answers.

“I felt the quiz was interesting because it was available to participants globally, the organization running it happens to be based in Hong Kong,” Michael said. The gentleman running the quiz advised me that many correct responses were received, but the prizes were awarded to those who were first to submit their answers. I feel especially fortunate that Prof. Stefanica and the associated MFE faculty did such an excellent job of teaching us the material which enabled me to respond rapidly to such quiz questions.”

Srinivas is also grateful for the learning experience he received through the MFE Program at Baruch.

“I started the MFE program because I wanted to work on quant oriented roles in finance,” Srinivas said. “The MFE program has helped me take first steps in that direction which was previously difficult because of my extensive background in technology roles. I am hoping to keep on improving and educating myself to progress further in future. The program has certainly equipped with enough confidence and knowledge to help me reach my goals.”
