Event Description:
Fellowships in Public Service / Civic Engagement (ex. Truman Scholarships and NYC Urban Fellows Program) – INFORMATION SESSION
This spotlight presentation provides an overview of fellowships in
public service and civic engagement such as the Truman Scholarship and
the NYC Urban Fellows Program. There are fellowships and scholarships to
help pay for graduate school; to fund professional development
opportunities through internships; to volunteer; to teach abroad; and to
work for the good of your community. The session offers advice on
selecting a fellowship opportunity; and gives suggestions on competition
strategies.
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship provides
funding for graduate school as preparation for a career in government
or public service. Truman Scholars participate in leadership development
programs & have special opportunities for internships &
employment with the federal government. U.S. citizens & nationals
who are in their junior year of full time undergraduate study are
eligible to apply.
The NYC Urban Fellows Program is
designed to introduce America’s finest college students and graduates
to local government and public service. It is a nine month fellowship
that provides recipients an opportunity to work in government or city
agencies. |
