Responding to Student Writing

Event Description:
This roundtable will focus on the theory and practice of responding to student writing and will address pedagogical foundations and practical concerns (such as time management and workload). Working from a process-based model of response, we will examine strategies for evaluative reading and productive feedback. We'll engage issues including how much correction (the infamous red pen) is useful, the benefits of margin vs. summary comments, the uses of praise and criticism, and student conferencing.

Participants from all disciplines are encouraged to bring examples of student writing that they have found challenging to respond to.
