Dr.
Heidi Beirich is a widely published and quoted expert on white
supremacist, anti-government and far-right extremist movements in the US
and Europe. The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE),
which she co-founded, combines research and advocacy to shape public
policy in the fight against extremism. In her most recent Congressional
testimony, Dr. Beirich spoke before the House Committee on Veterans
Affairs this October about violent extremist groups’ efforts to recruit
US veterans. Dr. Beirich also serves as an advisory board member of the
International Network for Hate Studies, is a co-founder and co-chair of
the Change the Terms Coalition, and GPAHE is a member of the
Christchurch Call Advisory Network, created by France and New Zealand
after the 2019 Christchurch mosque attacks, to address the problem of
violent extremist content online. For two decades before GPAHE, Dr.
Beirich led the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project. She
holds a doctorate in political science from Purdue University where her
work focused on European fascism and among her publications, she is the
co-editor of Neo-Confederacy: A Critical Introduction.
