(Light Refreshments served)

Once known as one of the last bastions of colonial rule in the world, nowadays South Africa possesses one of the most diverse and thriving civil societies in Africa.  In this talk, Prof. Matthew Eatough will discuss the social, political, and cultural transformations that have taken place in South Africa after the fall of apartheid in 1994.

From infrastructure-development schemes to science fiction tales about mutants, zombies, and vampires, we will see how South Africa has changed over the last two decades, and why it continues to be one of the most vibrant cultural and political spaces within Africa.
