Crain’s has named Helene R. Banks, who serves on the Baruch College Fund’s Board of Trustees and is a Baruch alumna, to its 2020 “Notable Women in Law” list, which celebrates “the achievements of the brightest and boldest legal minds; those with both distinguished careers and exceptional civic and philanthropic activities.”

Banks graduated summa cum laude from Baruch College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the College’s Zicklin School of Business in 1985. She obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law. In 2017, Banks joined the Baruch College Fund’s Board of Trustees.

A partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, Banks was the first female partner elected to the leading law firm’s corporate practice group and currently chairs its Women’s Initiatives Committee. Crain’s features a profile of Banks, along with other attorneys selected as “Notable Women in Law” for 2020, in its special issue published on Dec. 16. Read more here.

“It is an honor to receive this acknowledgment from Crain’s,” said Banks. “I am a proud alumna of Baruch College and my Baruch undergraduate experience was the catalyst for my decision to pursue a legal career in the corporate world.”

“Giving back has always been integrated into my personal and professional life,” added Banks, who is also a member of the board of the New York Women’s Foundation and mentors female corporate associates at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP.

“That is why I am pleased to serve as a trustee for the Baruch College Fund, which promotes the educational welfare of students. There, I can help provide much-needed support and life-changing opportunities to deserving young women who are striving to reach their goals that will lead to successful careers.”

Banks has earned national recognition as a leading mergers and acquisitions lawyer and advises publicly-held and private companies in substantial corporate and securities matters. At Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, her responsibilities range from managing complex international transactions for large public companies to guiding owners through investments in their privately held businesses.

In Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP’s online profile of Banks, the firm notes that “her breadth of experience gives her a unique ability to spot and solve issues and understand all aspects of complicated transactions.”
