CONTEMPORARY CUBAN ARTS AND CULTURE
BARUCH COLLEGE STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM
JANUARY INTERSESSION 2012
In January, 2012, Baruch and other CUNY students travel to Havana for a study abroad program run by Weissman Prof. Katrin Hansing. The students are learning about contemporary Cuban society through a focus on its dynamic artistic and cultural life and production. The program is being run in association with the Ludwig Foundation in Cuba. Through lectures, performances, film screenings, site visits, and discussions with local scholars and artists, students explore Cuba’s rich film, music, visual culture and architecture. Through these media students learn about
and critically examine key issues facing Cuban society such as: “race”/ethnicity, gender/sexuality, religion, migration,
the double economy, inequality, youth, and more.
