THE DEPARTMENT OF BLACK AND HISPANIC STUDIES

The discipline of Black and Hispanic Studies explores the social, political, cultural, and economic history, the experiences, and the realities of Black and Hispanic peoples throughout the world from ancient to modern times. Some of the main themes include: justice, racism and discrimination, the rural and urban experiences, migration processes, work and employment, community economic development, micro-enterprise, small business development, nonprofit organizations, the development of community, inter-ethnic relations, the role of the state, social and public policy, cultural production, literary works, artistic expression, racial and ethnic identity, and media portrayals.
