Music at Baruch

Baruch offers courses in a variety of music subjects and the opportunity to study with an internationally recognized faculty. Performance opportunities include the Baruch College Chorus, which is open to all students at the College. Baruch also sponsors recitals and concerts by award-winning artists in the Aaron Silberman Concert Series, and a residency program with the Alexander String Quartet.

The Music Major
The music major at Baruch College includes the study of music theory, literature, history, and musicianship, in preparation for graduate study in music or for a career in the music industry through the Management of Musical Enterprises program. Students take a core of courses in music theory and history and then select from a variety of electives in subjects ranging from western historical style periods to specialized studies in particular aspects of music in culture and society.

Management of Musical Enterprises
Baruch students may choose to specialize in the Management of Musical Enterprises, combining the study of music with the study of business fields such as accounting, advertising, marketing, and management. They can follow this course of study either as a music major, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree, or while working toward a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in a business subject. This places them on a track toward a career in the music industry, working for profit-making businesses such as record companies or music publishers, or with non-profit institutions such as symphony orchestras. The music management curriculum includes credits from both the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and from the School of Business, and participation in the Internship Program of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Music management students are not required to complete a minor concentration.
