Elizabeth
Wollman (PhD, City University of New York) is Assistant Professor
of Music at Baruch College. She is an ethnomusicologist who has published
articles on the relationship between gender stereotypes and rock radio
programming, on the socioeconomic development of the Broadway musical
in the 1980s and 1990s, and on the reception of rock musicals. Her research
and teaching interests include American popular and vernacular musics,
the mass media, the musical theater, gender studies, aesthetics, and the
postwar cultural history of New York City. Her most recent publication
is the book "The Theater Will Rock: A History of the Rock Musical,
From Hair to Hedwig" (University of Michigan Press, 2006). Email: lizwollman@yahoo.com.
