Faculty: Zoë Sheehan Saldaña

Zoë Sheehan Saldaña (MFA, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York) is Assistant Professor of Art at Baruch College. She completed her undergraduate degree at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine. She is a visual artist who uses photography, craft processes, sculpture, drawing, and digital media to make images and objects. Her work examines such notions as the shifting value of the 'handmade' in art, the dynamic between low and high art forms, the imperfect and often additive nature of copying and reproduction, and the multiple roles of the audience in the art experience. Her work has been shown and reviewed in the U.S. and internationally. Recent solo shows include the Pace University Art Gallery (Pleasantville, NY), Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT) and Light Work (Syracuse, NY); recent group exhibits include Fair Trade at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, Altered, Stitched & Gathered at P.S. 1/MoMA (both Queens, New York), Project Placement at Analix Forever Gallery (Geneva, Switzerland), Play at Lillstreet Art Center (Chicago, Illinois), Point of Purchase at the d.u.m.b.o. arts center (Brooklyn, New York), and Shopdropping: Experiments in the Aisle, at both The New Gallery, (Calgary, Canada) and Western Front (Vancouver, Canada). Sheehan Saldaña has also worked commercially as a digital artist in the areas of print advertising and web design, and she is a consultant to artists and photographers working with digital technologies.
