Welcome to our web site!

Baruch’s Weissman School of Arts and Sciences offers courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences—the liberal arts disciplines traditionally considered essential to a well-rounded education. These courses are offered by our 12 departments, which you can read about on our web site. All Baruch students take at least half of their courses in the liberal arts and are required to complete a minor in one of these disciplines.

Undergraduate arts and sciences majors in the Weissman School enjoy the resources of a large college and the atmosphere and individual attention usually associated with small colleges. Our classes beyond the introductory level tend to be smaller than arts and sciences classes taught at other public colleges and universities.

We offer exciting opportunities for advanced arts and sciences students, including intensive interdisciplinary seminars and independent study. Moreover, we have a series of specializations that bridge the Weissman School and the Zicklin School of Business or School of Public Affairs. For example, students may specialize in areas such as Arts Administration, Business Journalism, Corporate Communication, Graphic Communication, or Music Management.

Graduate students’ interest would center on our Master’s programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business Journalism, Corporate Communication, and Applied Mathematics for Finance. Each of these programs reflects the unique position of a first-rate school of arts and sciences allied with the largest accredited business school in the country.

Our arts and sciences faculty is outstanding and internationally known. Four have been awarded the prestigious title of Distinguished Professor. Many faculty members are affiliated with the highly-rated doctoral programs operated by CUNY’s Graduate Center. With the support of federal and other grants, our faculty works to develop innovative ways of teaching effectively. In Baruch’s new vertical campus we have specialized computer teaching laboratories and classrooms that are equipped with the latest in technological support-for both students and faculty.

A spectacular array of cultural events enriches our calendar each semester. For a look at what’s in store please visit the Announcements and Events page. Some of the highlights include classroom visits and concerts each semester by the Alexander String Quartet, exhibits at the Mishkin Gallery, the Milt Hinton Jazz Concerts, and performances by noted theatrical companies.

Extraordinary writers like Edward Albee, Agha Shahid Ali, Lorrie Moore, Anita Desai, and Tony Kushner have worked directly with our students through the Harman Writer-In-Residence Program, and have held fascinating public conversations for the benefit of the Baruch community. Weissman Visiting Professors have organized significant events for the college.

In summary, the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College offers an excellent education for students majoring in liberal arts subjects, as well as exciting options for students majoring in business or public affairs.
