Mishkin Gallery Hosts Part II of Baruch Photography Festival
Faculty, Student Submissions Range from Funny to Solemn

June 7 – June 23, 2005

From time to time, Baruch College honors the many talented individuals within its own ranks. The Mishkin Gallery is devoting June 2005 to an exhibition of outstanding photographic work by the College’s faculty, students, and staff. The photos, which range from the serene (“Alone Time at Hudson River Park”) to the humorous (“Granny Dumping”) to the poignant (“Grandfather”) include the works of 17 students, some of whom never picked up a camera till they chanced upon a photography course at Baruch.

Faculty work includes selections by Roslyn Bernstein, Henry Brent and Alisa Solomon (English); Marios Koufaris (CIS); Martia Goodson (Black and Hispanic Studies); Susan Locke (Psychology);Sibyl Schwarzenbach (Philosophy); and John Wahlert (Natural Sciences). Thematically, portraiture and New York cityscapes dominate, but locales range as far afield as Tuscany and Japan.

The jury for this exhibition was made up of Professors Terry Berkowitz, Zoe Sheehan Saldana and Leonard Sussman, (all from the Department of Fine and Performing Arts) and Mishkin Gallery Director Sandra Kraskin. All work was chosen anonymously—the photographer’s name and rank in no way influenced the judges. This exhibition is Part II of the Baruch Photography Festival which began last month with Leonard Sussman’s images “From Sardinia to Berlin.” The opening reception for this Baruch community show is on June 7, 6-8 pm. All are invited. The exhibition continues through Thursday, June 23.
