Department of Fine and Performing Arts
Weissman offers rich opportunities for students interested in theater. In addition to course offerings in acting, play-writing, theatre history, and production, each semester, the department sponsors a faculty-directed production engaging students in every aspect of the theater experience, including acting, set construction, lighting, costumes, makeup, and advertising. There are also upper-level opportunities for directing one-act plays and for training in stage design.
As a Major
Under the guidance of a faculty advisor, students may design an Ad Hoc Major in Art History and Theatre in preparation for graduate study or a career in theater management, theater arts administration, or technical production. When a student's educational objectives cannot be fully attained solely by study within an existing department, program, or school, Weissman provides the option of devising an ad hoc pattern of courses in an area of concentration of his or her own choosing.
As a Minor
A Tier III minor in theater requires students to complete two theater courses at or above the 3000-level, and one capstone course, which is at the 4000-level or above.
