This special course in creative nonfiction writing will be taught by the distinguished journalist, Adrian Nicole Leblanc, author of Random Family: Love, Drugs, Trouble And Coming of Age In The Bronx, a book that was voted #2 of the top ten best works of journalism of the decade by The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at NYU. In this course we will examine various ways in which the journalists position and voice frees and/or limits the stories that are possible to tell rigorously and well. Readings include work by James Baldwin, Anne Fadiman, Dave Eggers, Janet Malcolm, Joseph Mitchell, Susan Orlean, Lillian Ross, and others.
