I have been the Chairman of the Math Department since 1985. Over the last ten years, computers have revolutionized the way mathematics can be taught. We hope to make modifications to our courses in the next few years which will enable our students to utilize technology in their learning mathematics. One of our goals is for our students to use the technology to discover mathematics under the guidance of their instructor, or possibly on their own.
I received my bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from City College-CUNY, and did my graduate work at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University, receiving a M.S. and Ph.D in Mathematics. My concentration was in Applied Mathematics, specializing in electromagnetic theory, wave motion and nonlinear vibrations. Most recently, my interests lie in the application of technology in mathematics. I am having a lot of fun using various packages and teaching my students how we can increase our understanding of mathematics with the use of technology. I have written several texts, the most recent of which, Precalculus and Elements of Calculus, utilizes technology in the learning of precalculus and calculus.
