Elaine M. Kauvar is Professor of English. She has taught courses in Modern British literature, Women’s literature, Literature and Psychology, and autobiography in addition to Great Works of Literature and Composition. Her areas of scholarly interests are in 18th and 19th Century English literature, contemporary literature, and contemporary American Jewish writers. She is the author of Cynthia Ozick: Tradition and Invention (Indiana Univ. Press); A Cynthia Ozick Reader (Indiana Univ. Press), for which she received the Choice award; and articles on Philip Roth, William Blake, Jane Austen, and Issues in contemporary American Jewish life. Her current interests include the literature of exile and autobiography.

Professor Kauvar holds a doctorate in English Literature from Northwestern University. She attended the University of Colorado and the University of Chicago and Duke University, where she earned her M.A.
