The Department of Communication Studies
Welcome. We invite you to explore Communication Studies at Baruch.
Communication Studies is a strategic and practical choice for undergraduate and graduate students alike. Currently, our department is home to 542 majors in Corporate Communication, and 657 minors in Communication Studies. We teach Public Speaking to more than 2500 students annually and enroll 70 graduate students in our growing master’s program in Corporate Communication.
In 2014, the department launched an additional major in Communication Studies. The major has four concentrations: Interpersonal and Group Communication, Intercultural and International Communication, Rhetoric and Public Advocacy, and Digital Communication and Culture.
Students in our courses examine this multi-faceted and multi-disciplinary field and develop an advanced understanding of communication, while learning theoretical principles that are immediately applicable to every career path. Our faculty guides students in developing their oral and written communication abilities, in both personal and professional contexts, and encourages students to incorporate sound principles of analytical, interpersonal, rhetorical, visual, intercultural, mediated, and strategic communication into their daily lives.
Our faculty members are distinguished contributors to the field of Communication Studies and form a dedicated group of scholars and practitioners who offer their diverse and dynamic contemporary expertise to the study of communication in a variety of areas, including: corporate and organizational communication; media studies; rhetorical communication and persuasion; public relations; interpersonal and group communication; family and work life balance; intercultural and international communication; communication pedagogy; and business communication.
