  • Professor Beeman received her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Connecticut.  Her research interests are in racism theory, social movements, gender, and media.  She has published work on predatory lending, the reproduction of racialized and gendered hierarchies in film, and domestic violence.  Her dissertation examined the strategic use, limitations, and challenges of color-blind ideology in grassroots interracial social movement organizations.  This work received an award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems recognizing a commitment to scholar activism.  Currently, she is working on several articles and a book length manuscript examining how interracial organizations form and persist in the "post-Civil Rights Era."  Professor Beeman has also recently published an article on color-blind ideology and the Occupy Movement.
