Modern Languages and Comparative Literature

The Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature offers courses in Spanish, French, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, as well as in the great works of literature in translation.

As a Major
Students who are interested in a concentration in Spanish, may select that major by application to the department. Alternatively, those students interested in a broader experience in modern languages, may select courses from any of the languages as part of an Arts and Sciences Ad Hoc major. This major requires 30 – 33 credits and students who would like to pursue this field of study should make an appointment with an advisor in the department to select appropriate courses. The program must be approved by the department chair as well as the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences.

As a Minor
Chinese, French, Italian, Hebrew, Spanish, Japanese, and Literature in Translation may all be taken as a Tier III Minor.

Consult the online bulletin for information on the major in Spanish  or the arts and sciences ad hoc major in Modern Languages.
