Professor Petersen Critiques New Yorker Article

In a series connecting journalism and anthropology, published on StinkyJournalism.org, a site devoted to critiquing sloppy journalist practices, Professor Glenn Petersen critiques a New Yorker article by Jared Diamond. The article, Vengeance is Ours, is about the pursuit of vengeance in New Guinea.

Petersen says his essay is a contribution to a series titled, The Pig in a Garden: Jared Diamond and The New Yorker, that “enlisted a number of anthropologists familiar with the region to explore a range of problems with the article.” The series is written by ethics scholars in the fields of anthropology and communications, as well as journalists, environmental scientists, archaeologists, anthropologists and linguists et al., and edited by Rhonda Roland Shearer, Alan Bisbort and Sam Eifling.

A public abstract and proprietary access to the Diamond article can be found here.
