A Classic Liberal Arts Education

The first winner of the Salih Neftci Memorial Scholarship is Mr. Daniel Forman (MFE'10). A special mention was awarded to Mr. Peter Salzman (MFE'10).

Mr. Forman impressed the Alumni Committee with his clear and uncompromising perspective of the current state of the markets, reminiscent of Salih's. Mr. Forman worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York before joining the Baruch MFE Program, and has a BA in Economics and Physics from Swarthmore College.

Dr. Salzman impressed the Alumni Committee with his idea on securitizing third world border crossings as a way of using finance to help the financial crisis in third world countries. After working for Fitch Ratings, Dr. Salzman currently works for Algorithmics and holds a PhD in Physics from UC Davis.

A reception honoring Salih's memory and the first winners of the Salih Neftci Memorial Scholarship will be held on Wednesday, March, 3rd, at 5pm. We are honored to invite you to join us; see the details below.

Dr. Salih Neftci was a long time professor in the Baruch MFE Program. He passed away in April 2009. Salih was a warm and brilliant man, and a wonderful educator to those who were enriched by learning from him.

In appreciation of his tireless dedication to educating them and to shaping their future, over 100 Baruch MFE alumni and students, joined by  several close friends of Salih's, contributed to establish in perpetuity a Memorial Scholarship at Baruch College honoring Salih's memory.
