“Revisioning El Velorio: An Ex-Centric Reading of Francisco Oller's Nineteenth Century Masterpiece”

Dr. Alberto Sandoval-Sánchez, Mount Holyoke College, will lecture on Francisco Oller's El Velorio. His approach is an eccentric (excentric) and alternative reading to Oller's painting. Professor Sandoval-Sánchez proposes reading this important 19th-century Puerto Rican painting as a cultural performance and as a rite of passage.
