Who we are: The Writing Center's consultants are academic professionals. We all hold master's degrees and teach college-level writing (some of us teach in the English Department at Baruch). Each of us has strong experience working with college writers from diverse backgrounds and a range of academic experience--from novice to advanced.
What
to expect: The goal of each session is
to strengthen writing and language skills while working on a writing assignment. Together, we will identify your strengths and weaknesses in your writing; practice strategies
that you can use; and negotiate a plan of action to fulfill your writing assignment. We can also recommend other resources available at Baruch and on the Web.
What
NOT to expect: We do not edit or proofread papers although we'll help you learn how to edit and proofread your own writing.
When
to come: To get the most out of a Writing Center session, you should make an appointment well before your writing assignment is due. Try to prepare some writing that addresses the assignment. Sessions by appointment are 45 minutes
long. Sessions during walk-in hours are no more than 30 minutes.
What to bring: Bring your assignment sheet, a draft of writing, any class notes, texts, or research, a pen and/or pencil, and paper for notes.
