Menarche and the Girl
By Sherese Francis

In the days of awkward augmentations
Occurred prophesied massacres and cries of
“The goddess Menarche has struck another”
Her red dagger piercing the naïve little girl
Releasing slimy little eggs from her cavities
A curse for to live and die by each full moon
Again she took the dagger, skinned her alive
Removing the skin of her young self, replacing
It with the stretched skin, cutting in curves
“Death to her, Innocence gone forever” Laughing
Menarche repeated again, but the girl, deaf and
Blind, as ignorant of the punishment for
The presence of femininity, and she was tainted
Forever by the slaying of her youthful existence.
