Stars
By Finney Raju

They remind me of an old coat.
Odd buttons we sewed into the wool;
buttons from jeans, shirts
and dress skirts
pressed into rough navy.
I didn’t stitch them with corresponding slits
because these gems were meant to
punch holes into the dark -
not keep it together.
So while darkness coats the world,
sew yourself into me, and I into you.
We’ll compose a glittering trail
night can never swallow.
